I took this picture of Marshall Field’s beach house about 1970, while walking on the Caumsett Beach with my (then) young family. It was taken at low tide, showing a ripple pattern in the unusual rock-free, sandy beach. The house sat on a low bluff, surrounded by shade trees, and had a magnificent 180 degree view of Long Island Sound. Directly behind the house was a salt water swimming, and a little further back were the remnants of two clay tennis courts, which even then were being reclaimed by the woods. A small gazebo adjoined the courts.
